The maps in Fabular are randomly generated each time, with new nodes and encounters. The longer the player moves around the map, the more the alertness meter goes up, which will make more powerful enemies appear in battle, but they'll have better loot. The goal is to reach the boss node, which involves exploring each galaxy map. The player can still travel without fuel, but they take a ton of damage with each node. The nodes can contain anything from random encounters with enemies to mini Choose Your Own Adventure-style text adventures, which can play out in a number of different ways. The player's ship has access to fuel, known as Starbursts, which can be used to move one node across the map. Once the player is ready to begin their journey, they will be sent to a map with several nodes. Those who've played FTL will instantly recognize this setup, as Fabular is heavily inspired by the game. The final game will have a third vessel, called the Mage, which specializes in ranged attacks. The player has access to one of two ships in Fabular: the Paladin, which is a slow but powerful vessel with a shield, and the Manticore, which is weaker, but faster, and has a dash action.
